Latest Vehicle Concepts

I attended the media days of the New York International Auto Show this year and have brought back news on the latest new or completely redesigned models that I saw while at the show. This installment covers new vehicle concepts.

Lucid Air sedan – This new company introduced its sedan concept: the Lucid Air luxury electric sedan. Originally unveiled in December 2016, the all-electric sedan combines forward-looking design with groundbreaking technology. The Lucid Air features a full-size interior space in a mid-size exterior footprint. When deliveries begin in 2019, the autonomous-ready sedan will be available with upto 400 miles of range and 1,000 horsepower.

Subaru Ascent SUV – Following in the steps of Volkswagen with its brand new full-size SUV, Subaru is testing the waters with one of its own – the Ascent. The soon-to-be all-new Subaru 3-row SUV follows the automaker’s “Dynamic x Solid” theme. To be based on a modified version of the Subaru Global Platform launched last year, the Ascent will feature an all-new turbocharged direct-injection boxer engine.

Toyota FT-4X – Designed in collaboration with the automaker’s Calty Design Research Center, Toyota introduced the FT-4X (Future Toyota Four-Wheel Drive), a new type of adventure vehicle for young urbanites. One that is compact enough to navigate around the city, but capable of escaping into the wild at a moment’s notice. The FT-4X would be equipped with a powerful and fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, paired to a true mechanical four-wheel drive system. In essence, the designers envisioned the FT-4X to be a rolling gear box that has plenty of storage and the ability to be easily configured for the demands of the moment – from urban to off-road – and pretty much everything in between.

Genesis GV80 Fuel Cell Concept SUV – Far and away the “show stealer” at the New York International Auto Show. The luxury sub-brand of Hyundai Motor introduced a real stunner that the nameplate dubbed as “Athletic Elegance” design language. This innovative and high-tech SUV concept reveals precision details and a confidently evolved design language – a perfect balance between elegance and versatility. This concept also features an advanced plug-in hydrogen fuel cell powertrain that delivers truly refined performance. All of this and more designed to fulfill the needs and explore the escapes of the urban adventurer.

Designed in harmony with the refined exterior, the interior of the GV80 Concept creates a sophisticated environment for its passengers through superior craftsmanship, creative attention to detail and advanced technology.
