Recently returned from the 2017 New York International Auto Show, I have brought back news on the latest new or completely redesigned models that I saw while at the show. This installment covers domestic nameplates.
2018 Buick Regal Sportback – One of the most popular models in the automaker’s stable gets a makeover for 2018. The Regal sedan sails off into the sunset as the Regal Sportback five-door and the Regal TourX crossover fills in the resulting white noise. The Regal Sportback provides a sleek, sporty, coupe-like design, the spirited performance of a premium sports sedan and unexpected versatility in one sophisticated package for a perfect balance of form and function. The coupe-like roofline captures the expressive style and passion customers want, while the five-door layout enables easier access to cargo space. With the split-folding second row seats in place, the new Regal Sportback offers 31.5 cubic feet of cargo space, more than twice as much as the out-going 2017 Regal.
2018 Buick Regal TourX – Riding higher than than its Sportback counterpart, the Regal TourX offers consumers greater capability. Its rugged exterior appearance, standard roof rails, interior amenities, standard intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) with active twin-clutch and functional cargo area epitomize upscale utility, capability and convenience backed by the quality and safety expected from Buick. The standard powerplant for both the Regal Sportback and Regal TourX is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. That power is routed to the ground via a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. and Intelligent AWD with an active twin-clutch is an available option on Sportback and standard on TourX.
2018 Dodge Durango SRT SUV – Ruggedness, versatility and brawn come together in this latest vehicle from Dodge. Billed by the automaker as the “Dodge Charger of the Full-size SUV Segment, the Durango SRT is set apart by new exterior performance features that include a wide body exterior design and functional SRT hood with a center air inlet duct flanked by heat extractors, as well as a new front fascia and lower valence to house new cold-air duct and LED fog lamps.
The large Dodge SUV is powered by a 6.4L HEMI V-8 engine and bolted to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission with standard all-wheel drive. The automatic transmission has been specifically calibrated to optimize shift points and deliver maximum torque to all four wheels. A new SRT seven-mode drive system gives the driver the ability to precisely adjust drive settings to maximize performance or comfort. As a novel bonus and a nod to the performance potential, all customers who buy a new Durango SRT will receive one full-day session at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.
2018 Lincoln Navigator SUV – Luxury reimagined. The 2018 Navigator is an all-new full-size SUV that combines modern luxury with advanced technology – elevating family travel to first class. Wireless charging and standard Wi-Fi keep everyone connected. Advanced technology allows the driver to effortlessly adjust the vehicle to make driving easier or more enjoyable – in any weather or terrain. The all-new Navigator assures almost nothing is left behind.
Navigator’s elegance is on display before the doors even open. Upon approach, the chrome Lincoln star logo on the grille softly illuminates**. Then, LED lighting in the lower front body and taillamps subtly engages, and a luminous Lincoln welcome mat appears beneath the front doors. At night, interior ambient lights sequentially illuminate each of the SUV’s three rows. During the day, a panoramic roof fills the cabin with natural light.
Power is generated by a twin-turbo V6 engine delivered through a ten-speed transmission. Navigator’s lighter, high-strength aluminum-alloy body removes nearly 200 pounds, helping create a more refined ride.
