It’s hard to believe, but the Toyota Prius has been in America for 10 years. How time flies! The hybrid car had its debut in Japan in 1997 after a five year research and development prior to its unveiling in Japan in 1997.
This month marks the official anniversary date, and the Prius continues to be known as the benchmark for future generations of cars. Its superior “green” features, such as top-notch fuel economy and exceptionally low emissions, have been enjoyed by more than 1.2 million Prius owners around the world since the car’s inception.
Toyota is celebrating its 10-year-old hybrid success with a “Share Your Passion” Facebook contest that includes tributes submitted from fans who have captured, on video or in an essay with up to five accompanying photos, why they are in love with the vehicle and why it inspires their passion. Since August 18, the 10 finalists in the event, who range from bakery owners to cross-country vacationers, to full-time moms, have been available for Facebook fans to select a winner. The entry with the most votes wins, and votes are being accepted through August 27 at http://www.facebook.com/prius. The winner deemed most passionate, will be announced on August 31 and will subsequently host the official Prius 10th Birthday Celebration in his or her hometown on October 10, 2010 – get it, ten-ten-ten!
It’s a fitting and fun thing to do for a car that its owners seem to love…passionately. And the quieter and roomier new mid-size third-generation 2010 Toyota Prius III is another standard-setter for hybrid design and technology. With more convenience features and even better performance, the new vehicle is 50 EPA estimated mpg-rated, has more leg room for passengers, and is enjoyed according to one owner for its “GPS, satellite radio, heated leather seats, sun roof and solar panel. I love my car…it’s comfy, roomy and practical.” It’s also priced right affordably, in the low $20K range, which is very attractive to folks who are trying to economize.
Bob Carter, group VP and GM, Toyota Division says, “The Prius has evolved with our customers over the past 10 years and is now more things to more people. It’s environmental, innovative, and practical. It’s an everyday car for everyday use…we believe that its new features will appeal to returning owners, while at the same time attract buyers who are looking for innovative technology with a hybrid powertrain.”
With the Prius Party announcement just around the corner, fans who want to know more about it can visit the Facebook Prius Fanpage at the car’s URL above and “Like” the page to get continually updated information.
