Although though 2015 is just beginning, automakers have already begun promoting their 2016 models, and with good cause. They promise to be the most technologically advanced vehicles to ever hit the roads.
Among the 2016 models generating buzz is the Acura NSX hybrid, which will feature razor-sharp styling and a mid-mounted V6 assisted by dual electric motors and turbochargers. The NSX will compete against much higher priced, performance models including the Ferrari 458 Italia, Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracán.
The aforementioned Audi R8 will also receive its share of upgrades for 2016. The R8 will be available with a V8 and V10 engine, and there are rumors that Audi will also offer an all-electric version. Diesel and plug-in versions are also reportedly in the works. The 2016 R8 will also be equipped with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.
Another much anticipated model is the updated 2016 Cadillac CTS-V, which will feature the same supercharged 640 horsepower 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine found in the 2015 Corvette Z06. An eight-speed gearbox will deliver 630 pound feet of torque to the rear wheels, giving the CTS-V acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. GM will debut the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V, along with its re-engineered 2016 Camaro, at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
Another highly anticipated model is the 2016 Chevy Volt. While the 2016 model is expected to feature only minor changes to the exterior styling, Chevy engineers have reportedly made a number of noteworthy updates and added all-new engine and powertrain components.
Tesla Motors is expected to launch its Model X in late 2015 or early 2016. The Model X will feature the dual electric motor and all-wheel drive system as the automaker’s entry-level Model S “D” along with Tesla’s futuristic “Falcon doors.”
Finally, if the $200,000 base sticker price is within your means, the 2016 McLaren Sport Series might be the car for you. The Sport Series, previously known as the P13, will feature a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged engine capable of delivering an estimated 500 horsepower.
