Cars for Sale in Scottsdale, Arizona
Though Scottsdale is often described as part of the general Phoenix Metropolitan Area, it has a very distinct identity. Its official nickname is "The West's Most Western Town." The New York Times describes it as "a desert version of Miami's South Beach." Scottsdale is well-known for having a high quality of life, and was named America's "Most Livable City" by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 1993. It is also a very popular golf and resort destination and derives a substantial portion of its revenue from tourism every year. Situated in the desert, Scottsdale has a very dry, hot climate. Summer highs consistently rise above 100 degrees, while average lows in the winter drop to just below 40 degrees. The record low for Scottsdale is only 19 degrees. The dry climate designation is supported by Scottsdale's annual precipitation of less than ten inches and its nearly 4,000 average monthly sunshine hours.
Since Scottsdale was incorporated in 1951, it has experienced rapid population growth. It grew consistently at 30% or more from 1970-2000, and grew several hundred percent in the decades before that. The 2010 census estimates Scottsdale's population at 217,385 people. With more than 70 hotels and resorts and 15,000 rooms, Scottsdale has a very robust tourism economy. In 2005, 7.5 million tourists brought $3.1 billion to the economy. Scottsdale has the fourth-most AAA Five-Diamond Hotels and Resorts, and it also has the most destination spas per capita of any other U.S. city.
Scottsdale has a thriving arts and entertainment scene. The New York Times has complimented the city's active nightlife as "[hip] and happening" and the annual Scottsdale Arts Festival is one of the best in the country. Downtown Scottsdale features an extraordinary number of galleries, studios, and museums and is proud to display its vibrant Western history.
